Default Power Loss

I have a 94 civic ex coupe MT. When I run the AC it is very sluggish in low RPMs. In first it almost acts like its going to die out. Once I get into 3rd it seems to run ok. When the AC is off it runs noticeably better. I have had it now for 8 months. I did have the timing and tune up done right when I got it. ANy thoughts. Thanks

That's just how 4 cylinder motors are when you have the A/C on. You have to remember that it's not a V6 and doesn't have a lot of torque behind it. The A/C uses the power of the engine to drive the compressor, which usually equates to about a 10-15 HP loss with the A/C running. After you're out on the highway cruising along you should be fine. Even with the A/C running doing 70 MPH down the interstate my girlfriend's 97 DX gets 40 MPG in the middle of summer.
