Question about header fitment..

I have a 98 civic dx sohc non vtec 5 speed. I'm on a very small budget (poor college kid) and I want to get a header, hi flow cat and a cat back. On my car the cat is on the manifold. So my question is if I get a cheaper ebay header, hi flow cat, and a magnaflow cat back will it all bolt right up and fit correctly?? It looks like the manifold goes down to the cat then bends to the left under the oil pan then goes all the way back...all the headers i've seen for my car just go straight down and back. Will it still fit right? To make this question alot easier, will a header, hi flow cat, and a cat back bolt up without any modifications or problems on my particular model? Thanks!

RE: Question about header fitment..

I wouldn't go with a None brand name header...You get what you pay for. Cheap header tends to crack and not give a proper fitments and have problems with installation.
Personally would go for some Dc Sports..A lot of people are happy with Megan. I only can use Dc Sports because that's the only brand that will pass emission here in California.

look for some Used Dc sports on e-bay....I found mine using this site for just 85.00 with shipping included. I made a thread on the wanted thread. Good luck

RE: Question about header fitment..

Hey thanks for the heads up on the header. But do you know if the header, aftermarket cat, and cat back will fit since the cat came stock on the manifold?

RE: Question about header fitment..

Cheap headers tend to eliminate the stockcat. you will need to install one somewhere in the down pipe. After market cat will do the work with an O2 sensor on it. If your stock manifold has an O2 sensor on the cat you will need to buy some extensions ( adapters)so it can reach the new bung on the cat.

Since it's OBDII you have two O2 sensors.. one in the cat another on the manifold..SO yeah you would need a universal cat with a O2 sensor. Maganflow cats are good quality and not to expensive

Ok so let me get this straight, i need to get a header thats specified my particular model (dx), a cat to go after the header/downpipe, a cat back, and o2 wire extensions? If I get a cat with the 2 and 3 bolt flanges already welded in, this system should bolt right up correct?? I'm just not trying to have any problems with this...(i'm a honda noobie, been a truck guys for years)

RE: Question about header fitment..

It all depends what brand of headers you get Bro...Like I said cheap ones will eliminate the cat..So more work to be done.. You would need to install a cat somewhere on the down pipe (bottom)so it can connect directly to the header.. Similar to an Ex or Si> both of this models have the cat on the bottom and noton the stock maniflod.

A cat back system would fit directly with no mods to your stock manifold. Once you put an aftermarket header it will change the whole thing.
I would just get the whole pipping 2.25"done at a muffler shop, with universal exhaust, cat, so you wont have fitting issues. It will be much cheaper than a catback system. It will perform the same for much cheaper.

Just make upyour mind on what header brand you want to get and take it from there bro

Or you would need to getsome header like this and get a universal cat so it will be positioned in the same spot as OEM and not worry about the extensions. But mostly everyone in this forum just install a universal cat on the down pipe of the header

Ok thanks a bunch man. I've heard of some people that have civic dx's like me, and run a header and and cat back meant for an ex...and they just put the cat where it would originally would be for an ex. Does an ex cat back have the same exhaust hangers as an ex? If that would all bolt up then I think I will just do that..

RE: Question about header fitment..

^ a Megan EX header and then an OEM or high flow EX cat would be great for you; keep a cat, still get a header. Then i'd go custom catback, or Megan Drift Spec catback would be pretty cheap as well.

RE: Question about header fitment..

So I'll get an EX header and a cat for an EX...if I decide to not go custom cat back and buy one online do I still get a DX catback or an EX catback?? (remember I have a DX)
