Default Questions about this possible set-up for my y8

Well it looks like Im not going to be boosting the y8 for a while now so I guess Im going to go with a small NA set-up. Just looking to make around 140whp. Right now I have a 3" CAI with an AEM filter, ZEX stage 2 cam w/ ZEX valve springs, HP Racing 4-2-1 header, and a custom 2.25" exhaust w/ no cat. What Im thinking about doing this week sometime is ordering a Skunk2 intake manifold, a b series throttle body, an adjustable cam gear, and have it professionally tuned with Crome Pro. Could I hit 140whp with all of that? Anyone have a similar set up with a dyno sheet you can post up? If that won't get met to 140whp, then what will for around the same price without getting new pistons and such? Im trying to see how much power I can get with some bolt on's with valvetrain upgrades. Thanks

you are probably at 140. a stock Y8 has 127hp. say 3 for the header, 5 for the exhaust, 5 for the cam/valve train, 3 for the CAI (these are all fairly conservative numbers) you're looking at 143hp right there.

unless you mean at the wheels. if so then a manifold and throttle body will not put you at 140.

I am talking about whp. I made 114whp with just a cheap ebay intake, HP Racing 4-2-1 header, and custom 2.25" exhaust with the stock cat. So you're saying that there's no way for a d16y8 with an i/h/e, no cat, a stage 2 cam, Skunk2 IM, adjustable cam gear, and a bigger throttle body won't hit 140whp? If not, then d's suck ***. You said with all of that, I would be at around 143hp at the crank. Take 15% from that and that gives me 122 at the wheels which would mean that I only gained 9whp from a intake manifold, bigger throttle body, and tuning. I just don't see it. There's a guy working for AKMEE right now and he's been doing some testing. He's made 146whp with the AKMEE valvetrain kit, ebay header, AEM CAI, exhaut, test pipe, clutch, and a prototype AKMEE intake manifold with a GSR TB. And it's in a d16z6. He hasn't done much real tuning either. So I don't see why I couldn't make 140whp with everything I mentioned with some good tuning. Now I've said what I think, tell me what you think. Im not saying Im right. I really want to know others opinions before I go and spend all this money.

to get 140 to the wheels on a D you're gunna have to tear into the internals. even a mini-me will only make 135 at the wheels.

but like i said, those were conservative numbers. you're prolly more at 150 at the crank.

you have to remember tho...these arent big engines. bolt ons wont add that much horsepower. theyre all based on percentages...and when you're talking about a car that makes 105hp at the wheels...you arent going to be adding much HP with basic IHE.

yea but it won't be just an i/h/e...it's going to be i/h/e, cam, intake mani, larger TB, and some really good tuning. It obviously can be done. I just told you about that other guy that made 146 at the wheels and he didn't finish tuning it yet. Think you can find me any dyno's of some similar set ups?

If the reason for not boosting is that you dont have the cash, good luck trying to build a N/A Dseries to those HP numbers.

Im not trying to "build an N/A motor". Im trying to get all the HP I can with my car until I do boost. I AM still boosting later so what would be the point in me trying to build an N/A motor? What Im doing now with the intake mani, larger TB, and cam gear is getting a little bit more power and it's setting it up perfectly for boost later as well. Did you even go to www.AKMEE.com? That guy is making 146whp with those mods on d16z6 right now. I'll be happy if I even hit 135-138

With a really good tune, I think you will come fairly close to 140.
