Quick Exhaust Question

Right now my stock muffler is way to loud for me (I assume because it's 20 years old). I would like to buy a tip and muffler from either Flowmaster or Magnaflow and have a shop remake my exhaust from the converter back. Keep in mind that I do not want it loud at all, but I wouldn't mind opening up the exhaust a bit. Ive heard a Magnaflow exaust on a buddies car before and I loved it. He bought the muffler and tip attached to eachother, will it sound different if I make the muffler and tip seperate? Also, right now my stock exhaust runs along the passenger side of the car, cuts across the rear bumper, and exits out the stock bumper on the drivers side. Is it possible to run it all along the drivers side in order to cut down on the extreme bends?

I would keep it in the stock location. The vehicle has an "inset" for the exhaust. Reducing bends will decrease back pressure to my knowledge and that is something the little motors need.

A tip is purely cosmetic and will not change how anything sounds or performs. It does not matter if you buy different brands.

I forgot to mention that I have a 1991 DX Hatchback

Any tips on keeping it quiet? I'm almost sure I'll go with the Magnaflow. Does muffler casing size affect the sound?

Not sure on the casing size question you have. The magnaflow wont sound terrible. If anything, buy a bigger resonator for the B pipe in order to quiet it down.

Will 2.25 inch piping be ok? Also, what size of Magnaflow muffler should I buy?

2.25" is fine. No idea on the size needed though.

Will it be ok to go up to 2.25 inch tubing while keeping the stock resignator?

*resonator

No, it wont fit. If you want to buy a specific length resonator, buy one, buy a muffler and then take it to an exhaust shop for a quote including 2.25" piping. Make sure the muffler and resonator you get is 2.25" too.
