Short shifter Clearance
 

Hey guys... I installed the skunk2 short shifter and now the bottom of my shift linkage drags on the top of my exhaust! Now I've only got one exh. hangar to "adjust" and it looks like it really doesn't wanna move... Since I'm not upgrading my exhaust at this time, here are my Q's

There are two..mmm..I'll call them weights on the back of my shift linkage (pics-weights 1 & 2.) Does anybody know what they are and what they are for???

I wanna get MEDIEVAL [sm=badbadbad.gif] on that linkage bar and cut them off!!! It appears that if I do that I will get the clearance I need for the Short Shifter. After hacking them off I can round that side to match the other and repaint the bar...Does anybody see any problems in doing this (strength, shifting issues etc...)

I do have the option of putting the stock shifter back on...It's not THAT big of a deal... I WILL eventually upgrade things...

Oh and BTW.... I dunno if I got the bolts too tight or what but with those new shifter bushings I intalled ....that shifter is TIGHT!!! I mean TIGHT!

Alright, I got impatient... I see no need for all that extra metal except for gettin in the way! So here went nothin...
I LOVE my dremel! I did'nt grind it all the way on top to leave some integrity(wether it's needed or not???) Now there's no banging or clanging...just short sweet shifts! :D

yeah those are the counterweights they aren't really needed, it just makes it a bit smoother to shift. thats what the instructions said for me to do when i got my shifter if it needed clearence

Why dont' you just take that heat shield off? I dont' recall seeing those "weights" on mine, but they may be counterweights or easier shifting. Lose the heat shield.

As for the shifter being tight, you probably just torqued the bolt down too hard and are now putting pressure on the bearings. Just back it off a little to get it where it moves feeely and either "double nut" it or put some loc-tite on it.

I considered losing the heat shield but it was just easier for me to cut/grind. Yea I losened the bolts when I did the grinding, it did'nt help. I put an Energy Susp. bushing replacement kit on the linkage I think that is where the tightness came from. It sure is nice though... It shortened my shifter shaft just enough so it's not in the way of my cupholders/cd player anymore! LOL no more reachin round it... But I can't rest my fingers on it while I'm going down the road anymore. Oh well... the SMALL price ya pay...
