Default Slower with CAI!?!

Ok. Maybe it's just me, but then again, I'm kinda new to this stuff so I may be wrong. I installed my CAI with K&N cone into my 96 Si (EX) just a few weeks ago when I got my timing belt and water pump replaced. Up until the CAI install, I had a short-ram, (WAI) with the K&N on it. I've G-tech'd my car with both set-ups. My best time to date was 16.62 @ ~86mph....WITH MY WAI!!

So here's where I'm a little confused. Since intalling my CAI, I have NOT been able to beat this time, (~4-5 runs). Could it possible have anything to do with the fact that I got my best during the end of fall (much cooler outside), in comparison to the brutal heat and humidity I've been testing it in recently? Maybe its something else??

Any ideas or expert suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

THNX!!

It could be a number of things. Cooler, less humid air, etc.. Also, adding an SRI is not going to up your horsepower enough to see a significant change anyway

its probably the heat more than anything. in combination with change in driving skills, it makes sense you gained time. general consesnsus is 11 degrees F = 1hp...the hotter the lower the power. you probably did loose a little power just because of the heat.

How much slower? What were your times with the CAI? This may just be one more nugget for the CAI vs. SRI debate. As I have contended before, peak Hp is almost identical.

But the weather makes a difference. 10*F = 1% in Hp

Nail I3unny, I think you may have misunderstood. My time has gotten slower with the CAI. It was faster with the WAI. You'd think with the improved driving skills (only been driving stick since Sept '05) and CAI that the time would be faster.

Pretty much all of the passes I've made since the install have been between high 16's and mid 17's, so anywhere from 0.5-1 second slower. Weather wise we're looking at around 25*C (~77*F), but feel more like 35*C (~95*C) with the humidty, and around 10*C (~50 *F) in the fall.

no..i understood. you said you perfected your driving skills over the winter...but chances are you lost some of them over the winter (thats what happens...at least if you're somewhere where it snows a lot). and temp will make a huge difference. if its 80* now and was say 50* then youd have a good 4 or 5 hp over yourself in the cooler weather.
