stock 99 dx exhaust
 

alright i got a 99 civic dx hatchback, with a completely stock exhaust, i dont have enough cash to put in a whole exhaust but, can i put a 3a racing muffler on to get a deeper sound?

Yes, it will sound different. Yes, it will sound good to you. Yes, it will probably bring unwanted attention to you. Yes, you will get sick of the noise within a year. :D

You will gain nothing but sound by replacing the muffler. You gain only about 1-5 hp if you install a full exhaust kit, 5-10 hp if you install intake, header, exhaust. Also, those numbers are probably inflated.

It comes down to this, if you are thinking of installing this for only the sound, go for it. Just let us know when you get annoyed with the sound or get pulled over for the excessive noise.

I would save up your money (assuming your car is 100% stock at this time) for either suspension or a full cat-back exhaust system.

hmm..... not really wanting to get pulled over haha so how much would a cat back exhaust cost then? just like a ballpark estimate

~$200-$500, depending on the quality. With exhaust systems, you get what you pay for.

I have an Apexi-WS2 system on my car now. Cost about $450. I have been using it for the past 3 years and it is just now starting to sound a little louder than it used to. However, that could be from the slew of modifications I have done to the car though :D

hahah, so pretty much what your saying is, i can either get this muffler and enjoy the noise for a while, or save for a cat back exhaust, is there anyway i can modify the stock exhaust system to sound like a cat back?

You can drill holes in your muffler if you want more sound. But please, do not do this.

Just save up, research the exhaust you want, youtube.com for sound references, research again, and then buy. :p Research is key. Also, little things like gaskets, and replacement bolts may seem small and cheap now, but can add up in the quickly. Try to allot additional money for the "little" things.
