a high flow cat won't throw a CEL

just a note though: the "high flow cat"s you see on eBay aren't really high flow cats, unless they're a name brand. the ones that are no-name are just a resonated test pipe.

here's what you want.

i have one in the 92-95 civic version (no O2 sensor bung) and I love it.

yea, it's the same for 96-00, and it has the O2 sensor bung

it's not noticeable but it helps

it should help some with gas mileage because you're replacing your old, probably somewhat clogged cat with a fresh brand new one.

Since everyoen is too lazy to read here is teh facts.

Stock - our Civic mule put down a respectable 147hp and 105 lb-ft to the front wheels on K&N Engineering's dyno

Ceramic high flow cat - With the Magnaflow ceramic cat installed, the Honda turned the rollers to the tune of 150hp and 107 lb-ft to the wheels. The ceramic-core cat netted us an additional 3hp and 2 lb-ft to the front wheels.

Metallic High flow Cat - The metallic core cat netted us a 1hp gain (to 151hp) and no increase in torque over the ceramic core.

Test pipe - we bolted in our test pipe; eliminating the cat entirely. 152hp and 108 lb-ft; a gain of one measly horsepower and one lb-ft of torque at the cost of breaking the law.

So there you go, a high flow cat will get you 3-4 HP and 2-3 toque. A test pipe gets you 5 HP and 3 torque.

Conclusion; RUN WITH STOCK OR GET A HIGH FLOW! >DO NOT< GET A TEST PIPE UNLESS YOUR VEHICLE IA A RACE ONLY CAR!

not to mention the guts of my ebay "high flow cat" fell out after about a year and rattled around inside. Sounded like a heat shield and confused the sh*t out of me, just another reason NOT to get one.
