Depends on who you know and what deals you find. Obviously a head swap will depend entirely on who's selling the parts for what price. Also, the head work and tuning will also depend on who you know. For example, my friend just got a $1,000 port job done for about $100 simply because he knows someone. As for the rest, the cam/valvetrain would be around $600, the pistons would be somewhere around $400, and the intake manifold would be $300. So there's $1,300 plus whatever you pay for the head swap, port/polish (which anyone could do themselves if they trusted themselves enough), and tuning.

Besides, he never asked what's the better value. He asked what he could do to his engine to get more power without boosting it or swapping it. I'm answering the question unlike the rest of you.

O_o cars are expensive. I cant justify to myself spending money on a new engine when the one i have is fine, but if further work is 300 and up, prolly the most economical thing to do would be to save for a cheap d16y8 from an ex or something like that right?

would that be a direct bolt in swap, or would I have to get special mounts and other work that would be best done by a garage? Also, I read that with more powerful engines i would need better breaks, but since that engine is only 127 hp would I really need a break upgrade?

It all really depends on your knowledge of vehicles and how to work on them. A swap can be very simple if research and planning are done prior, you still may run into some gremlins but that is what we are here for. As far as the brakes I personally wouldnt upgrade them but to all their own they serve their purpose adequately for the power of your car. My suggestion is to start working on suspension first so that way if you ever 'justify' the motor swap then you are riding nice on a comfortable sporty suspension....

no need for a full Y8 swap all you would need to get would be the y8 head which would give u vtec as well as a better flowing IM and will raise the comprestion a bit

what would the price range be on the head about? do i have to do anything to program the vtec, or get a different ecu for the new head, or is it just a matter of attaching it?

My mini me swap cost me $700 but. I had the head machines and replaced every gasket I could and replaced the timing Beltand water pump
You will need the vtec ecu
