What do intakes and headers do for fuel mileage? Other than HP gain...

I thought about adding some more HP and performance to my civic by putting on a header by DC sports(good brand?) and getting some name brand intake like this AEM which I read gives about 8 HP at 6000rpms and like 6+hp gaind at 2000-6000(normal driving rpm range for me since I dont race the car)

What do intakes and intakes do for fuel mileage? Is it up or down?
Thanks
What header is better for a normal driver.
a 4-2-1 or a 4-1? Do they make a 4-2-1 for a 2001 civic ex coupe(non si)?
Thanks

yes dc sports is a good brand. the sri will not give u 8hp maybe around 5-6 or so...and u can prolly find it cheaper than that somewhere else. i/h/e will all increase gas mileage due to the fact that it allows ur car to breath and fart better. 4-2-1 would be better for everyday normal driving since it'll give u a bit better low end power.

If you do end up buying an intake and header dont expect to much of a gain. Sure it will add maybe 10-15 Hp tops w/ both things but dont expect it to be really noticeable. As for DC yea its a good brands but id look for Megan. Megan is just as good but cheaper so if you wanna save a little dough try to find one of those.

With all three what kind of fuel increase would I expect to get?

its hard to say since every car is different. it'll go up, but not a whole lot...maybe a couple more mpg or so..

My 04 civic sedan was getting over 400 miles per tank so just a little under 40mpg... I took it off and w/stock air box i am back to about 350miles per tank

it shouldn't hurt milage at all (also depending on how you drive your car) if its a DD it should go up for it is bringing in more air and letting your engine "breathe" better

What type of header should I go for?
Stainless or ceramic? Or something else I think there is another but I cant remember the name.....

ceramic. less heat in the engine bay which means prolonged durability and reliability, more heat staying with exhaust gasses which translates to higher pressure and faster flow, which means more power and better gas milage.

You can do the same thing with certain coatings on stainless and make it lighter than ceramic, right?
