what do you think about universal mufflers

I'm looking for sound and not power. Any major difference between full cat back and just the muffler and stock piping, aside from price? Would cutting/welding affect the sound of my stock muffler if I ever wanted to go back to stock?

bigger piping yields deeper sound (moreso than muffler alone). however, from stock to an aftermarket muffler, you'll notice the sound is louder and deeper.

if you choose to revert back to stock, your car will sound just as it did coming out of the factory (save degradation of other components making weird sounds lol)

that's a great choice in muffler by the way

okay great, i thought welding and stuff will mess up the sound.
I just have to find a good shop to weld now...
Thanks a lot. I wanted this muffler because it was nicely priced and on the quiet side because cops in my area have been cracking down on street racers a lot... though im not the type to race with an autotmatic lx, i don't want to be profiled and thus pulled over.

Yeah cops can be such jerks. just because you have a muffler they think you are racing. They deserve a slap across there face [:@]

would this be more quiet than the apexi world sports II full cat since its only the muffler on my stock piping? Any ideas on the sound quality at low rpms?

any ideas if RS R exmag or Greddy SP come in the form of universal mufflers?
Seems like I can't afford an axleback either...

Why not just get the ExMag? It's a pretty low-volume exhaust, even in catback form. Also, it doesn't have an obnoxiously loud, raspy noise or a huge muffler tip. But if your reason for keeping the stock cat is cause you're wanting to sell in the future, good luck finding just a muffler that you like.

Megan Drift Spec goes for les than $400 for sure. And the universal muffler wont give any gains, vs. the catback which will (minimal, but still there). I say get some custom piping to match that muffler and you'll get the gains, and imagine it will sound better too. Throw in a 22" (or more if you can fit it) Magnaflow resonator and you'll be set with a custom catback.

i really can't afford custom piping or anything. thanks though.
I'm gonna go with that world sports II universal muffler. does that look like the right diameter to fit my 01 lx coupe?
