94 civic steering wheel remove
 

Hey guys, I have searched the forum and read the diy on the steering wheel removal, but it is for a newer civic. I have a 1994 civic cx hatch(canadian version) and I checed the steering column and could not find the pop off pieces to reach screws, and I believe the car has no airbags in the drivers side, so what I need is if I should just pop the horn cover off or how do I go about changing the wheel. If anyone needs pics I can post them up/.

I'm actually going to change the steering on mine soon.. And well I might be wrong but under the horn button there is a bolt.. Just remove that bolt and pull! I think that's it...

edit: well.. that bolt is probably a nut :D

okay, I was hoping someone else was going to explain, but I guess not...

This is for 92-95 civics, removing the steering wheel.
Here's the typical SRS Airbag steering wheel.

If you have SRS:
First you must disconnect the positive and negative battery terminals. Wait 10-15 minutes, for the electrical system to discharge (damn capacitance).

The backside of the steering wheel:

Notice that this wheel has cruise control.

Remove the small screw that holds the rectangular plastic piece on.
Then, you will see yellow wiring (SRS Airbag wiring) and a red wire end/plug.
Disconnect the yellow wiring and plug it with the red end/plug for safety.

Now that the airbag won't go off, look again at the picture of the backside.
On one side are the cruise control buttons and the other side a plastic insert.
With a flathead screwdriver, pop off the plastic insert to reveal a screw!
Remove that screw, duh.
On the other side, remove the black cover the gain access the the screw on that side.

Now, you can pull the airbag out.

This leaves you with just the outer steering wheel and one bolt.

MARK where the top center is, so that the steering wheel isn't crooked when you put the new one on!!!
