Default '97 Civic Door Panel Inserts

I'm fixing the interior of my 97 LX Sedan for my teen daughter.

Did the headliner last week and it came out good. Now I'm ready to work on the door panel inserts.

I removed the RR door panel last night and removed the handle and started to remove the insert, but I discovered that this model does not have the plastic rivets like shown in Addictions DIY thread. It almost appears that the insert is rolled on the edges and glued into place from the front. The back of the door panel looks to be one solid piece of plastic.

Has anybody done this project with this style of door panel?

The sedan door panels are not able to be done using the DIY for a coupe. Unfortunately, the panels are different. (I ran into the same problem.) I thought about experimenting with mine to see if there is a way to use a dremel to cut them out.

Default Here's what I did.

The insert backer is indeed part of the door panel. Once the armrest and hardware is removed from the door panel, the fabric can be pulled off the front of the door panel. Then, cut a matching piece of fabric and glue to the door panel. The edges can be tucked into the channel around the insert. I chose to get some black 1/8" rubber piping at Home Depot and ran around the channel to cleanup the edges. This is the same stuff used to assemble window screens in your house.

I would be interested in seeing pics of the results. My door panels look awful.

Here are some pics. I didn't attempt a DIY, but this is a very doable project.
