umm.... what?

OP, sorry I haven't visited the thread in a while. That black thing is called a front splitter. They usually don't come with body kits, but you can buy them from a lot of the places that carry kits. I know extreme dimensions offers them, and I think Aerotrends does too. Procivic carries ED's products, so I wouldn't be surprised if you found them there, too. The theory behind them is they increase downforce on the front end, but if you talk to anyone who religiously road-races, they'll tell you that any aero component such as canards, splitters, and rear diffusers are more or less useless unless they can support your full body weight (meaning you stand on it and it doesn't break), so I doubt the "buy it and bolt it on" ones would do much good. Also, to actually catch and direct air, they need to stick out further than the ones you usually go out and buy.

Anyway, I forget exactly what duraflex is comprised of. I know it's a type of fiberglass body kit made by Extreme Dimensions, but I can't think of what's mixed with the fiberglass to give it more flexibility and strength. I don't have direct experience with duraflex, but I'd bet it's probably a little more resilient than traditional fiberglass, though I'd still try to find a polyurethane body kit if you can and have the money for one.

thanks alot reaper, im not really going for performance, so a flemsy one isnt too bad as long as it doesnt fall off .

why does everyone say get the lip... sorry i have money to spend on my car, and you .... not so much.

anyway great info from everyone.

if anyone else has more to add. feel free

Well, performance really isn't the issue, it's how fragile the fiberglass kits are. I used to have one, and it didn't take much to crack the skirts. Actually, I slid into a snow bank once with it... cracked the front bumper in 3 places and the rear in 2 (long story lol). Polyurethane won't crack like fiberglass will; I'm not sure on duraflex, but I'd imagine it's somewhere in between polyurethane and fiberglass.

As far as lip kits, most people (including myself) feel it gives a car a cleaner look than a body kit (also, if you're a lowrider kinda guy like me, you can slam a car with a lip kit more than one with a body kit since body kits sit lower to the ground). Personally, I'm a "if you like it, do it" kind of guy, so I really don't care if someone has a body kit or a lip kit... it's not my car, so unless I'm asked about something, I don't offer my opinions lol.

woah, calm yourself down. Its not an issue of money...its an issue of looks. Yeah lip kits are cheaper, but look 10x better. Sorry but imo body kits are lame, especially on 7th gens.

also if you have soooo much money to spend on your car why dont you do a k swap or a more worthy mod that will actually get you some credit on the street.

If you have money to spend, spend it more wisely. It's not about having money to spend, it's that most body kits look like ***, and most of us would rather spend that money we save on performance/suspension instead.

I get the feeling you're only buying a body kit because you want attention and you have money to spend. Just letting you know, just because you have money to spend on a body kit doesn't make you "cool".

You're making your Civic look like something it's not... whether it be a spaceship or anything else. I'm not exactly sure what you people who like body kits are going for... IMO it just makes the body of the car look too busy. So many body lines you could give someone a seizure.

+1, but regardless of what anyone says... it's your car. You can do whatever you want with it.

For the record, my ej1 got way more attention when it was stock bodied with an oem front lip and dumped to the ground than it did when it was stock height with a body kit

Meaning this:

Name: photoshoot4.jpg
Views: 30
Size: 45.0 KB

got more attention from the general public than this:

Name: BodyKit3.jpg
Views: 31
Size: 26.4 KB

(and yes, during the summer I had my 17's on with the kit... that pic was taken in like November when I took the wheels off for winter)

I had people talking to me about my car at d**m near every gas station I stopped at when I slammed it... with the kit, I never had anyone come up to me and ask about the car.

Just my two cents

*edit: Of course... if you do this:
Name: 3-2.jpg
Views: 33
Size: 24.8 KB

You might get more looks than anything... I'm such a photo ***** (and when I threw the r34 front back on for that pic, I measured it... just under 2" from the ground to the bumper lol)
