how to replace shifter knob?
do you really have to replace the whole shifter thing or does the **** just come off? because the material(leather i guess?) around my shifter has a ring at the top, and it kinda unclicked from the shifter **** itself? so obvoiusly the thing still works but it made me think hey should i just pop on a cool one;;
am i a total idiot::: is it that easy or is it a project.

A standard gear **** should just unscrew in a counter-clockwise way. It may be tight however.
If you want to put a new one on, it will come with an adjustment bolt, so you can make it tight, but facing the right direction.
It's as simple as that.

Hey I'd rather a twist off **** than a press fit one, my ex's saturn used a press fit **** and it was common for people to punch themselves in the nose or eye when trying to pull the **** off (and I almost did due to how much force it took to get it off)....
Certain size like thread pitch or ****/ball size?
Thread pitch is honda specific (can't remember exactly off hand) but most sellers will state if it's honda specific or universal in the discription (you'll also see pics of lil screws and black plastic sleeves, this notes universal fitting).
As for ball/**** size, this is entirely personal preference, I've used a Skunk2 type r style **** and I've used a 2" diameter cf ball ****, I liked both but I like the fit of the cf ball in my hand better...
