Default Painting Steelies!

Real quick... I have steelies and studded tires on and not all of the rims are black, do I need to take off the rims to paint them or is it safe to paint them as they are right now? And what spray paint should I use?

i was gonna laugh if you wanted to paint them like red or something.

i think it will be like any type of steel you paint, get rust proof paint, and clean it down to the steel.

it is easier to paint them with the tire off of the rim but you can also tape the tire with masking tape, make sure you clean/rough up the metal or it will not hold the paint on there

use index cards to stick in the lip between the rim and tire and tape them down, use scotch brite pads to scuff up the paint on them and clean them really good afterward. and spray them.

Screw that masking tape. Just get the little brothers jar of vaseline under his bed and grease down the tires. Paint won't stick to it, and just wipe it up when wheels dry. Peace-out.

Heck I just scrubbed them down and painted them this afternoon all black... I cleaned the tires and rims good and waited till they dried. THen I sandpapered them all down and used spraypaint and covered the rims 3 times... took about 5 hours total waiting until they dried to the touch and then I painted them again. It is too dark to post the pics but I will tomorrow... I did a pretty good job. I didnt cover the tires at all, got paint on them too but you cant tell at all. Plus I will only have these tires on for just another month until it is safe from ice.
