I'd venture to say about 90% of people that run harnesses in street cars have them mounted incorrectly; too steep of an angle and they can compress your spine if you get in an accident. I believe the harnesses aren't supposed to be at more than a 45* angle behind the seats, but I could be wrong about the exact angle.

need atleast a roll bar for added safety. figure most people who would use a harness on the streets probably wouldn't take the time to strap themselves in properly. properly means very tight. they are suppose to limit your body movement. if you are strapped in loose, your head can end up in the windshield. heard of this happening to a local guys girlfriend using a harness in the passenger when they hit a tree, not good. if you are strapped in properly without a roll bar/cage, the roof can cave in on your head crushing your neck/spine since when your strapped in tight, body movement in an accident is limited.

the factory seat belts are just fine, use them.

yeah i've seen people mount them to stuff like c-pillar bars, cross the straps, secure them to the mounting bar improperly, etc.... its a mess. for street driving you don't need a harness, ever.
