RE: 9-06-07 project civic PAGE 21 train horn installed

4-29-08 UPDATE.... car is now sold. sad to see it go BUT its for the best. back to work on my black civic [8D]

well thinking of selling it. not cause i dont like it... I LOVE IT... BUT bills are very high and if i do sell the car it would be GREAT to pay off all my bills that have been building up since i bought my black 99civic.... and id still have some money to start looking for a decent hatchback project car......
BUT i know one thing i will not take less than $3,500bucks cash for it.... ive posted it in the local free craigslist website and ive had a few people say 3K offer BUT im VERY FIRM on 3,500 or ill keep it..... if i dont get 3,500 i wont be able to pay off all my bills and have enough cash to buy another project car but this time a hatchback...
ive figured i have just about 2K bucks cash in thier car AND all my labor/work/time spent on this.... i think all my labor is worth 1,500bucks........ all the fine touches ive tried puting into this civic so its ready to run forever, trouble free.....
but if i cannt get 3,500cash im just gonna keep it and rock it and keep puting money into it.....
at least over the winter i SHOULD be able to knock half my bills down.... cause i dont realy need anything else on the 94civic besides paint.....
BUT if i did deside to sell the civic AFTER i do all that paint work. id want at least 5Kbucks for it.LOL which id probably NEVER GET so id definatly be keeping it.LMFAO im tired of loosing money from my toys... ive always caved in to much, NOT NO MORE when it comes to resale!!!!!!!

end edit....

thought id go ahead and start a build thread for my 94civic i got afew weeks ago.....
car is a 94civic coupe EX.
400dollar car ill start off with the bad cause its quicker this way. LMFAO
a nice size hole in the front of the block....
no AC
car was originaly green and cheap blue paint job HORIBLE prep DEEP scratches all over the car with green jams and such!
and the interior. just a few bezels around door handles busted up, and steering wheel was replaced with ugly aftermarket wheel. and i THINK the springs have been heated to lower the car since they are badly rusted!

news so far.... bought a replacement Z6 motor...
so far the replacement motor looks good... tho i just started inspecting... so far motor has way to much oil in it, and timing belt looks worn. 250bucks for the motor...

so far ive only bought a new timing belt and water pump, and i have a new tensioner i bought for my 99ex but im preaty sure its timing belt has been replaced before i bought the car. new oil pan gasket. 170bucks thier..

also bought used steering wheel parts so i can have a airbag and cruise controls and a horn as well. now im just waiting for them to come in the mail. paid 100bucks for all the parts for the steering wheel... i want my air bag safety first!!!!!!

so far under 1K bucks spent for it... and so far only few things i need now, afew seals... spark plugs. degreaser and hightemp paint. and MAYBE a clutch i wont know the condition of the clutch until i pull the motor outta the car.... then OEM springs before winter hits.

and paint will be worked out over the winter quarter panel at a time in primer until spring.

car books about 2K bucks in fair condition so im sure i can get my money back outta it if i do decide not to keep it. BUT i think ill keep it for awhile cause its a manual so alot more fun to drive than my 99 auto....

heres some start pictures..

and a short video of what a motor should not look like.LOL 3 cylinder...

heres the rod right thru the front of the block :( right next to the dip stick....
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...vichead-10.jpg

and heres the replacement motor i got and just kinda opened up. i still have to bolt it to a engine stand...

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...motorZ6-01.jpg
also a SNAPON impact gun with LOTS OF PRESSURE works quick on that crank bolt ;)
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...motorZ6-02.jpg
belt looks preaty worn...
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...motorZ6-04.jpg

looks rather clean under the valve cover..... just poured some trany fluid down all the cylinders just to oip up the cylinder walls alittle. he said motors been siting for around a year.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...motorZ6-06.jpg
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...motorZ6-08.jpg

tho not sure WHY oil level is so high.... im hoping just the oil filter has drained and the guy just added to much oil. i cannt smell any gas or see any radiator fluid...
unfortunatly i cannt realy check compresion until i bolt the tranny up to it. :(
not sure how to do a leakdown test. never done it yet!
but ill find out the condition of the oil when i drain the fluid after geting it up on the engine stand tomorow night.

after i get all the seals replaced and plugs in the motor im gonna take off all the harness wires tape them up and degrease the CRAP outta this motor!!!!!!!! clean it up realy good and paint it all black with some high temp paint.........

trying to make this civic a nice reliable some what show off worthy....
not to many mods to start out with realy
will be PIECE BY PIECE..... budget style.LOL
already borrowed 250bucks from my dad for the motor. and not trying to borrow anymore money for this project civic!
i wish i could do the whole build quickly BUT i dont have much cash.. and work 40hours a week already so i dont feel like working very long on this car at a time....

so i think its a mo

looks like you have your work cut out for you, man... good luck and have fun with it

(oh and I think those springs are aftermarket... they look purple where they're not rusted... I just can't think of a company that makes purple springs offhand though... I know I've seen them before)

RE: 9-06-07 project civic geting back to stock and modest.

ya either way with the springs i want the car back stock height for winter driving. i like my 99 lowered ALOT but i do drag on things from time to time..... :( not a good sound.....

thought about some coil overs BUT i think keeping it stock height with stock comfort spring rate will be best for winter driving. cause the roads already suck as is during the winter.LOL

i know ill put this civic thru some abuse BUT as long as i do this tune up stuff it SHOULD hold up good and be fine... just hope the axles can take it.. BUT if not its always repairable ;)
just not going for the rice look..... trying for a low profile fun to drive car.... i miss my old 86crx even tho it was a turd it was still fun to drive at times. nice cheap car you could just drive and not care to much about!
i just dont wanna wreck my nice 99civic cause i think i got like 8K stock and another estimated 3K in mods in it....
MAYBE i could trade it for a hatch sometime.... cause thats what i would REALY like to have..... ;) hatches are just sexy.... hahahhaa

RE: 9-06-07 project civic geting back to stock and modest.

Its too bad the paint was done ****ty, I like the color. You should try to paint it yourself man. Save some cash for other things...like springs that wont snap in half on you. Haha. What kind of exhaust is on your 99?

addiction2bass 09-17-2007 05:59 PM

RE: 9-06-07 project civic geting back to stock and modest.

well like everything... i do do it myself ;)
my 99has stock exaust BUT next tax check im gonna buy a RSR exaust. great sound and still looks good!

im gonna sand quarter panel at a time this winter so the cars gonna be preaty much in primer most winter until spring time when temperature is warm enought to paint and very little bugs are out.... best time to paint outside! i kinda like the stock green anyways....
im not completly sure about the cars paint... BUT i know its had some racing strips on the car... cause you can CLEARLY see where the strip was.. might still be thier... the ugly thing is im preaty sure it was a yellow 2 strip. i dont care if it was green or blue yellow looks preaty bad on both.LOL
but at least door jams look good so it wont need to many minor touch ups in the jams.....
also forgot the door pins also need replaced door sags preaty bad :( tho that should be cheap enough to replace....

but if i was to PAY for labor this civic would be in a dump.LOL but for a do it yourselfer it can turn into some fun and profit...

Looks like a good project! My only question is why the hell anyone would put EK seats into an EG!? LOL. When I bought my EK one of the first things to go were my stock seats, they're horribly uncomfortable IMO and look like crap compaired to some clean EG or teg seats. Those springs are definatly after market, I think they're just ebay crap springs, explains why their rusted![&:] That steering wheel's actually not bad looking, just need to paint it a different color, then again, I agree with having airbags as a good idea. Good luck on the project though man, I bet you'll end up liking it better than your 99 since it's a stick. Keep us posted!

well i like the seats myself.... my old 86crx had some different seats in it that where VERY COMFY BUT i have no idea what they where outta... :(

my friends 95civic seats never felt that comfy :(

wow man, quite the project. Whats the final layout gonna look like? Exterior/Interior/Motor/Audio? And why OEM springs? Why not some aftermarkets?

RE: 9-06-07 project civic geting back to stock and modest.

Respect for the do it your self mind set...im the same way. Im about postitive im going to try to paint my car myself. Ive done small things and a bumper that turned out good. If it was a yellow stripe, you should go back to the owner and slap him! Thats terrible! LOL. And I feel you on the hatch, I looked for one for 5 months within 300 miles of my area, never found one worth buying for a resonable price...ended up with a 98 LX for 2,300 bucks. Good luck with the long job ahead.

RE: 9-06-07 project civic geting back to stock and modest.

well i wanna do OEM springs cause this is mainly gonna be my winter driver.....
and well to start out with no real mods yet.. just geting it back reliable and safe and able for daily driving.

and as to doing it myself.... i do PREATY MUCH everything myself ;) only thing i DONT/CANNT do is some computer and alignment... preaty much everything else i can do...

and well ANYWAYS another day of motor inspecting... so far it looks good....... no visable scaring on cylinder walls from the bottom... no metal shavings in the oil pan.... oil looks pure... radiator fluid in the motor looks pure.
ill clean some parts up tomorow and start puting it back together.... but does anyone know what seals i should replace? looks like thier is some oil leaking around the motor front and rear..... i have to run by dealership thursday after i get paid to ask them and buy new seals. just want to keep the motor drip free!!!!!!

and WOOPS i forgot this motor doesnt have seperate mains.LOL so i cannt check the bearings like i wanted...
and the oil filter was dry. so i think im also gonna price a new oil pump just to be on the safe side!
and DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I CAN PRIME THIS MOTORS OIL? i want to pump some oil thru the motor to ensure the bearings arent dry...

well heres some pictures of the motor opened up alittle....
and the red fluid is tranny fluid i put down the spark plug holes i put in the cylinders to help oil them up a bit...

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...t/DSC00237.jpg

and well thats all i got right now....
have to clean some parts up with some nice diesel fuel and a brush tomorow night and then seal the motor up and pull it outside and degrease the CRAP outta the motor.... clean it up good and start some painting on the block.... i have to inspect the head/intakes side by side before i paint to make sure THEY ARE the same completly. just to be SURE....

any advice for the motor/tranny replacement seals or what not PLEASE let me know!!!! id hate to put the motor/tranny in the car to find i missed a cheap @ss little seal and have it be marking its teritory everywhere.LOL
