speedometer adjust?
 

I just recently got a '99 civic ex and the speedometer is working ok, but it is reading 10 mph faster than my actual speed. Is there any way that I could adjust it so that it will read correctly? Any replies would be much appreciated.

its due to smaller than stock tires. you can get bigger tires (bad idea) or live with it. ive heard of getting a different gear for the speedo, but not on a honda. i dont know if you can do it for your car, my dad did it in his f-150, i dont know if any of this helps though. check with the honda dealer.

if you've changed your wheels and didnt size the tires then that exactly your problem. You can have the dealer recalibrate it, but its gonna cost you.

why would be getting bigger tires a bad idea?

smaller tires lower your overall gear ratios allowing you to put more torque to the ground. also, a bigger sidewall flexs more around corners, hurting handling performance. a low profile set of sticky tires is the best bang for the buck handling mod possible.

I got 17/205 on my car now, but i ws thinkin bout gettin 16/205, is that a better idea?

yeah, if you dont mind a little rougher ride( very little) then go with 205/40/16, the shorter sidewall makes a huge difference in handling, and the smaller overall diameter as well as the lighter weight. the weight is unsprung as well, so its even better to take weight off of the wheels and tires than almost anywhere in the car. also, spend a few more bucks and get a good set of tires. youll love your car with a set of decent performance tires on it.
