Anyone know Director MX 2004?

I'm sure there's gotta be at least 3 people on here who know this program inside and out. Needless to say, I'm having problems and I'd really appreciate some help.

RE: Anyone know Director MX 2004?

Lingo is my big hangup right now. I've got an intro video clip (wmv) that I want to have play at the beginning of my movie, and after it's done, I want to jump to a marker for a main menu. The sprite for the clip is only 10 frames long, and I'd like to keep it that way, but I can't figure out how to code it so it will play the whole movie clip while keeping the sprite 10 frames. Any ideas or help greatly appeciated.

I used to have programmers in our IT department code lingo for me, but basically, you need to find a lingo script that tells the timeline to finish playing the current movie before continuing.

if you do google searches for lingo forums, you can probably find someone to write you a simple script to accomplish that if you ask "NICELY."

actually, if you check your built-in scripts, you may already have that function built into director.

when I worked with director, we had a custom script called "play this" that would do what you wanted, but I no longer have the script library since I haven't used director in years. You'd be pretty amazed how simple the script is.

it works something like this: play this movie. check to see if movie is finished. if not, go to previous frame and redo frame check. if movie is finished, continue on to next timeline frame.

check to see if you have this script already in director's library. If not, you'll have to ask a lingo specialist to write it for you.

BTW, if you don't mind me asking. What are you using Director for?

Flash 8 is so advanced now almost everybody who used to use director now uses Flash.

the only reason people still use director now is primarily for multimedia CDs with heavy video or bitmapped image content.

I used to design multimedia CDs and director was a painintheAss piece of software. It was always buggy.

that's why I use Flash for everything now. It's also cheaper and the flash developer community is always more open and willing to help. Director developers are just the opposite.

Well, I got my original question figured out.

ORIGINAL: drbyers

the only reason people still use director now is primarily for multimedia CDs with heavy video or bitmapped image content.

Actually, that's exactly what I'm using it for. It's for my junior studio entry portfolio at school, and I'm a 3D Modeling/Animation/Design major, so it's got to be something hot, because they cut our class down to 20 people next year. It's all high-res .bmp's, HD-res animation files, music, and VRML (Virtual Reality Markup Language) demos. I'm designing buttons and stuff in flash though. Which would actually lead me to another question (I'm picking all this stuff up as I go).

Right now, I have my buttons set up to animate when you hover over them with the mouse, so I've just been setting them up in flash and exporting them. But can I export them so that the link properties are still accessible in Director, or do I want to build the links in in Flash? For individual buttons, there isn't much of a problem, but when I import my menus into Director, they behave fine but I don't know a way to link the individual flash buttons to markers or frames since the whole menu comes in as a single sprite.

Any ideas?

RE: Anyone know Director MX 2004?

they say that flash button code can be imported directly, but it's actionscript, not lingo, so I never tried it.

i always coded the buttons myself in director. It was pretty simple drag-and-drop and you KNOW the code will work.

I recommend coding the buttons in Director. And make sure you code the button as on button UP not onbutton down.

these are the kind of glitches that causes Director to be so damm buggy, and why I stopped using it. Here's a bit of advice: make sure you test your final product on the SLOWEST, OLDEST computer you can find. If the CD works on that, it should work on anything... EXCEPT for maybe a computer that has windows NT loaded on it.

For some reason, windows NT had the crappiest multimedia peformance evAr for a peecee.

BTW, you do 3D modeling? I used to use Maya/3D Studio Max and Poser at my last job, but never really had time to do 3D since I was always working in Flash.

I'm trying to get back into 3D but it's HARD, once you stop using it.
