If you were born and raised here legally, then you are not an immigrant. I hate when people say that^. I'm not an immigrant, I even have a number to prove it

what exactly is outsourcing?

As per Wikipedia:
"Outsourcing (or contracting out) is often defined as the delegation of non-core operations or jobs from internal production within a business to an external entity (such as a subcontractor) that specializes in that operation. Outsourcing is a business decision that is often made to lower costs or focus on competencies. A related term, offshoring, means transferring work to another country, typically overseas. Offshoring is similar to outsourcing when companies hire overseas subcontractors, but differs when companies transfer work to the same company in another country. Outsourcing became a popular buzzword in business and management in the 1990s."

Although now a days, when people talk about outsourcing, they are really talking about offshoring. It's a really big issue, especially where I'm from, because of Microsoft. MS does a ton of offshoring (as do a lot of tech companies. When you call any tech support, or major hotline and you get people on the other end with an accent, you're probably calling another country. More likely than not, it's India. A LOT of our offshoring goes to india.)

You can read about the criticisms of outsourcing here. IMO it is something that has a very negative impact on our economy.

Anyway! To be on topic...

I'm like 100% mutt. I have something of everything in me, from native american, to welsh, to portugese to french canadian. I'll be damned if I know where the blonde hair came from...

Edit: And I agree with Forty. If you were born here you're not an immigrant. That statement about native americans being the only non immigrants is bs. I AM a native because this is my native homeland. I don't belong anywhere else.

I'm 50% Scottish, 25% English, and 25% Irish.

My Grandparents had come to this country prior to the inaction of the Immigration Act of 1924. Pretty much due to that Act the whole function of Ellis Island was changed from an immigrant processing point into a detention and deportation station for illegal immigrants. It's my feeling that the doors to this country were closed as of May 26, 1924.

Enjoy.

Just to add a bit. The Bearing Straight used to be the site of a land bridge. Many historians believe that "native americans" settled in these lands about 12,000 years ago. They used the land bridge to cross because big game had traversed the same path. Thus leading to the "Indians" that where found here when explorer came from Europe. Everyone in America is an immigrant or a descendent of an immigrant.
