Default Car got totalled

I haven't called the insurance/filed police report yet because I am wondering what to do. My friends say that my car is totalled and that the ins company will just total it, meaning that they'll just junk it and sell parts. My question is how much detail do adjustor's take in inspecting the car. I am for sure going to switch my rims off and put steelies back on, but what else could I get away with as far as taking stuff off? Also, if it is totalled, what is the compensation that I would receive. Someone told me Blue Book minus 5%. Has anyone had experience with this before? Thank you.

It'd be best if you posted pictures of the damage. What kind of car is it?

When I totalled my car I took my rims off and then I took my head unit but I had to put the stock one back on for the insurance company to make an estimate. After they decided it was totalled the guys at the garage let me take whatever I wanted off of it because they were just going to squish it into a cube.

It's a 99 EX Coupe. I was thinking that they might just squish it like that or part it out. I'm thinking that they would part it out though to make more $$. I am probably going to put the stock airbox back on, and keep the cold air. Also, probably get a stock radio and keep my Alpine, plus the amp and put the old speakers back in. I doubt that they'll listen to music when they check it out. Then, just small stuff like the spare, my strut bar, floor mats... So how much did they give you when they totalled it? What did they base the value on?

I got like 3 grand for my 95 civic. I got nothing for aftermarket parts either.

Was the accident your fault?

I was driving on the expressway to somewhere I wasn't familiar with and didn't see the sign for where I was supposed to go until the last second. When I made the turn over to the right, my car spun out and I hit the guard rail twice. Fortunately, I came out fine but as you can see my baby was a different story. She bit the bullet for me.

I don't have any pictures of the rear but it was smashed up a bit too.

There was no engine damage but because it was a 95 they totalled it.

I'm not an insurance agent or a mechanic, but I'd say your car is totalled. It is a 99 though, so who knows. Sucks that you don't have somebody else to blame for it.

Luckily, no one was hurt. I have no problem paying the deductible ($500) because to get it fixed would be a lllooottt more than that, or else I get a check if they total it and can buy something nice- how much that check would be is the question. We will see... Just wondering how thorough these adjustors are, never been in this situation or know anyone that has.
