...unfortunately, I'm going to be buying in full knowledge that I'll probably be trading it in for a Type-S in two or three years. ...
I don't know how old you are but automobiles are not an investment. Someone said to put money into real estate. Doesn't look like you can afford real estate, but the real fact of the matter is that your parents think of cars as something that should be reliable and can get you from A to B. That's why they don't want a car with high miles or something that's old. That's the way they are thinking. Forget trading in ideas. You're losing money.

My suggestion, keep your current carand bike. If you can save money now and decrease your monthly expenses, that's the best financial advice. In the future, you'll be less in the hole from trade-in loss and depreciation. In 2 to 3 years from now, you can get a Type-S, if that is what you desire, and you'll have more mad money to put into the car. You seem to be impulsive from what I've read in this thread.

Asmy answer to your question if it were me... for $10,000, I would get a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice Classic and then get 22" chrome dubs. That's how I ride homes.

I don't believe I ever said anything about cars being an investment

I'm 18, and took a year off after graduating so I could work and save up some money (right now, I'm just trying to make sure I'll have gas/insurance/food/rent money for school... I'll worry about school costs later lol). Anyway, my biggest reason for wanting a new car is simply that I'm getting tired of my car... it's slow, an auto, and there's too many little things to fix on it. To get the car how I'd like it would honestly cost $3k or more (if you include the "cost" of work put into it). The way I see it, I'm too young to be looking at real estate (not to mention I've going to be at school for 2 years soon), so I'm not sure that's my best option right now.

Also, I'm pretty sure the insurance on an rsx would be cheaper than the insurance on my civic + my cbr, so I'm actually sort of saving money (not that I'm happy I'm going to be selling my bike)

And I'm not 100% sure where the impulsive thing came into play.. basically every time I change my mind with what car I'm getting, my parents were involved:

Transmission swap in my '94 = I found out you have to pull the engine and decided it wasn't worth it lol
'95 Acura Integra = The guy never got the title papers back from Harrisburg... I'm not buying a car with no title
'99 Acura Integra = Too old, my parents wouldn't let me get it
'02 RSX-S = Too many (106xxx) miles, my parents wouldn't let me get it

And the way I see it, even a base-model running on three cylinders will be faster than my automatic civic lmao. But seriously, I believe manual base-models put down around 120 or 130 horses at the wheels (as opposed to the 125 that my civic had at the crank), so there'll be a decent difference in power regardless of whether or not I get a Type-S.

Anway, I'm trying to talk my dad into going with me to look at the base-model saturday (since my parents are going to have the final say-so in what car I get)... I asked about going monday, but my dad said he didn't feel like going anywhere so that pretty much ruined that lol

Hey man, sounds sweet and it's definitely an upgrade, but I'm just letting you know that my d16y8 with v2, dc header, and rs*r exhaust keeps up with my friends stock ep3 and they're almost the same as the RSX. Just keeping it real, i still think it's a cool car

Well, I know that... rsx's are basically glorified civics... at least the base models are. Type-S's are probably a good bit faster (especially with that close-ratio 6 speed), but at this point, I just want a 5-speed... it'll feel so much faster than my auto civic

anyway, hopefully I'll get to see the car in person on saturday... I'll let you guys know how it goes

I would go Acura all the way. A lot of people say like, "acura's are just overpriced hondas"... but i don't believe that. That is top notch honda right there. If I had the extra dough I would get a newer model Acura no questions.

Well, I'm not getting the RSX. The dealership wouldn't lower the price ($10,780 firm) and my parents won't let me get it (even though it's KBB value is $12,800). They want me to sell my car and get some money first (I'm not sure why I'm not allowed diving into my bank account to get the money). Before anybody says anything, I do understand where they're coming from with this. I don't really blame them, but it's just so frustrating to be told that you're allowed getting a nice new(ish) car for 2 weeks and then be absolutely shot down on it after putting almost 100 extra miles on your car (not to mention the 1/4 tank of gas I wasted). Anyway, I guess this is my chance to get a Type-S (it's going to suck having to fill it up with premium every time... not to mention I've heard (from clubrsx.com) that the 6-speeds tend to grind either 2nd or 3rd gear (or both)).

Anybody interested in buying an automatic civic?

*edit: now that I think about it (and now that I've calmed down a bit), I think I can probably talk my parents into getting the base model. I want an RSX so bad... I was borderline drooling when I was looking at the car... it's absolutely gorgious. Not to mention the seats are honestly the second most comfortable stock seats I've ever sat in (the 1st being my friend's '88 crx si seats)... but one thing's for sure... my '94 absolutely needs to be sold before I'll get the okay to buy the rsx.
