Default Care for Baby Bunnys

Thiscouple came in petmart last night when i was running register and said they didnt want this baby bunny anymore...I asked everyone if they wanted it but when they said no i took it. I had a vet lady hold it and tell me if it was ok...she said it looked good and was really fat and active but most wild baby bunnys didnt make it when raised by humans...

I was just wanting to know if anyone has ever raised a baby bunny ( he doesn't even have his eyes open yet) and if you kept it alive.....what did you do?...and if it died...what went wrong?

The only thing i see wrong right now is that it has diarrea so bad that its liquid but this morning a little turd popped out afterwards...

I'm going to work right when i get out of school to get it a heating pad and some timothy hay

Weve had a rabbit since it was a babya nd shes fat adn healthy now. Looks like your on the right path with the pad and timothy hay. I dont knwo any specifics but aftera little you'll want to switch her over to greens. We feed our rabbit everything from alfalfa to parsely to lettuce and even cucumbers and bananas. Once it gets bigger make sure all wires are out of its reach casue they chew everything and I mean everything.

what do you think i should do about the diarrea? or since it was runny and then there was a stool do you think he is fine? i can tell you everything under the sun about reptiles but i dont know much about bunnys....oh yeah and im going to get him some bene-bac (good bacteria that eliminates bad bacteria in new borns) and i was just reading that they need to eat their mothers stools so im getting my friend to bring me some of her bunny turd

yeah that sounds about right. for a while the will just want their mother milk, and than once they become more active and moving around they will eat poop, and than move to regular rabbit food. i raised 4 of them in my parents bedroom. long story we bought the school rabbit home and they didnt think the genetics experiment worked and didnt think she was pregnant... little did everyone know haha. just have a heating pad because they rely on the warmth of the other babies to keep it warm so that would be good. keep it in a nice quiet area of the house too. btw, we kept one and he is 9 and a half years old. things old as dirst but still acts as though it was 3.

ya i think the diarrea is from stress because it was in a bucket under my register with a lot of noise for about 5 hours...if thats not stressful i donno what is...i have him in a plastic used to be lizard cage in the recliner with pillows and blankets all around...its dark and just has the sound of a running fish tank...i think its gona be alright...im feeding it goat milk from a medicine dropper right now

Good, thats what you need to do. And you said you work at petsmart so you have alot of resources available to you. We almost had to feed mine by hand because the mother orginally rejected it because it was the runt of the group. But, we kind of kept putting him with the others and he became healthy again. Let me tell you, when he/she opens her eyes she will love to explore. Nothing like waking up every morning looking for them around the bedroom (the were born on the open floor so you couldnt put them in some type of cage even though that is not too good to do anyway). Oh, and if it is a boy, which you will soon find out, set up the apointment to get him neutered as it will make him less agressive and less messy (if you know what i am talking about)

the diarrea could just be from the different milk. if my memory serves me correct the little bunnies had diarea once in a while mostly because their diets are all liquid at the time. just leave a little alfalfa hay (the green is better for younger rabbits than timothy hay) and some rabbit droppings in case it wants to start experimenting with different foods. try not to hold it much either.

I prefer my bunny done medium, with a vegetable medley, potatoes, and some red wine.
