DDoS'ing me!
Do not reset the modem before knowing wether or not you have a static IP. If you reset your modem it will reset the settings inside it, so if you have a static IP it will get erased and you will not get internet access until you get a technician to fix it or help you set it up all over again. I was DDoS'ed several times and chances are even if you fix the problem that it will come back, best thing for you to do is get something like Sygate Personal Firewall which let's you block every individual IP that you want it to block, the program is easy to use and will show a very detailed activity log of your connection, it will show you which Application or IP is being used by your connection and you can then decide what you want the program to do with it.
Run spyware programs and anti virus', I suggest Spybot S&D and AVG Free edition anti virus, both are very reliable and efficient.
So basicaly, reseting your modem might fix it, but if you keep doing the same thing with your internet connection you will probably end up with the same problem again, so block the Applications or IPs that are attacking you, run a spyware and virus cleaning software and voila. It should not be more complicated than that.
I ALWAYS use software based firewalls, I never just rely on the hardware based ones, I just think thats plain stupid
