Default del sol

I am looking at buying a del sol as a project car...I found one with like 200k miles on it and the tranny is slipping. Right now it looks like i can get it for like 700 dollars or so. Does this sound like a deal, and also what would make an automatic slip; i have only had manuals.

Usually the bands and friction plates in the tranny. If you're super lucky it could be low on tranny fluid, but at 200K I really doubt it. You could find a tranny to drop in pretty cheap if the rest is good. It'll keep it on the road for a bit. I'd say offer 500, and work from there. Play up the tranny interior/exterior...remember you are doing the seller a favor by purchasing the car from him/her.

Thanks for the reply, Its either that car with a tranny that will most likely need to get replaced or a sol si with rust problems that is a manual with like 160,000 on it, what do you think would be best?

how bad is the rust. i say buy them both (if they are both cheap) and convert the auto to a manuel, then scrap the other one or keep it for parts

HA thats a pretty damn good idea. just take the motor and tranny out of the rust bucket and put it in the other, but im not sure what the price of both of them will be. Thanks

Ok heres a question for you honda junkies. How do you convert a automatic to a manual and is there alot of parts needed/involved. I know that i would probably need to change the computer, add master cylinder depending on if its hydraulic or not, and i would need to chop the floor to add a clutch pedal..What else is needed and how much could i pick up a manual tranny for? thanks
