I was just reading yesterday on how to jack your car up and lower it onto the engine if you dont have a hoist. As I remember, they used 2 jacks and put them on wood blocks to get the car high enough.

Rent, buy, or borrow. DO NOT TRY TO RIG SOMETHING!!!

Engines are big heavy things, and tend to break things when they are dropped on them....I.E. Feet, people, floors, tools. LOL

So just spend the cash and do it right.

doesnt it local advance or autozone or pepboys rent this stuff out?

I don't think AutoZone will rent an engine hoist (not sure though) but they will sell you one for around $150. Check on Craig's List if anyone is selling one locally and you might be able to pick one up cheap. Definatly don't rig something, engine falling on you = really bad day.
