People who "like sports"
Is it just me, or do others stifle disappointment (or whatever negative word would describe it better) when they're talking to somebody and they tell you "I like sports.", and when you ask them what sports they like to participate in, the answer is..."Oh, I don't participate. I just watch."?
I've never understood people that like to watch sports, but don't participate in anything themselves. This seems to be a fairly common claim among women who are trying to "be one of the guys" or something.
I can understand people with physical limitations, or obligations, not playing sports but still spectating. I just don't understand the couch potatoes who don't even play flag/touch football, or run, or swim, or surf, or drive practice golf *****...yet claim to like sports. Why don't they just claim to like WATCHING sports?
Most of these people aren't even pregnant paraplegics(sp?) who work 80hrs/week or anything. They're seemingly active-capable people, with all their working digits and normal work schedules.
I'm 35, and I find myself more active in sports than most of the 20-somethings I encounter these days. The people my age and above? On average, they don't seem to be able to see their toes very well, much less touch them. Did they just lose their "zest for life" after their teens or something? My stepdad liked fishing, rollerblading, mtn biking, ATVing, skiing, snow-shoeing, and many other active pusuits until the day he died. He was like a big kid to the end, and still had a great time with his life. Why aren't more younger people like this?

I'm the opposite, I hate watching sports on t.v, I rather play the sport. I used play football in high school and soccer with my family when i was young but since coming to college, it has turned me into a couch potato and made me gained 20lbs in the last 3 years[&:].
i agree with you kommando, i have a friend like that... watches sports to no end, but i dont think i've ever seen him play any... me, i'm not that into sports... i'll watch a football game now and then, i do really like watching hockey... but i used to play a lot when i lived in iowa and the river froze over... i also like watching snowboarding (btw, shaun white threw down a 1260 in the superpipe last night) but i snowboard all the time, i'm way into extreme sports
yeah but people that say they like sports and only know the players, stats, and rules, without ever stepping on a field/court... annoy me

Nice soapbox rant. Just cause some people aren't active doesn't mean they can't be fans. Thats just like saying that you can't modify your car if you don't race it.
Get off your high horse, you're no better than anyone else.
