Clear bra is the way to go. I know 3M makes good ones, I've heard they're kind of expensive though. There are different levels of quality as far as durability, orange peel effect, ect. Porsche uses small examples of these on rear fenders where there is a lot of wind resistance. I've had leather bras in the past on my car. From experience, it takes a lot of work to keep your paint protected and scratch free, especially the sides of your hood and fender where the leather makes a sharp turn to fold underneath. Most people get a lot of paint damage because they leave it on with mud, dirt, and particles packed underneath and they never take it off to clean and prep the paint. Personally, I would not use a bra except for longer highway trips. Like over 2-3 hours.

16 years of detailing I've seen a lot of messed up paint on cars from leather bra's. If you know how to take care of it they work good but personally not a big fan of how they look. The clear 3M shields are the way to go. I installed them for about 6 months at a shop...not something I recommend doing yourself. Most dealerships offer it on there new cars. When I picked up my '06 every car they had on the show floor had the clear shield installed. They were supposed to put it on my car but I asked them not to because bugs are not really a problem for me and chips are going to happen no matter what...the shield will protect the main area but not farther up the hood. I would rather the whole hood get it instead of just two thirds of it.
