I used to toy with the idea of getting a bike but a guy I know recently got owned heading home from work. Some bastard 17 yo kid decided to pass somebody without looking first on a 2 lane hwy. They collided car (possibly suv?) vs bike head on... needless to say the helmet didnt make a difference. I know its kind of a rare fluke but id be too nervous about it to consider riding a motorcycle any time soon. Oklahoma drivers make me nervous enough in my car anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, that kind of stuff can happen in a car, too. I mean, more than half the people I know don't wear seat belts, so in a head-on collision at highway speeds, they'll be lucky if they're rushed to the ER and not the morgue.

Bikes are like this: if you're cautious, pay attention to cagers, and ride within your own limits, you're fine. It's when you do something stupid or you stop paying attention that bad things happen.

Actually, RC has a good point. Oklahoma drivers are crap. Seriously. I've driven in many states, and non have been as bad as here in Oklahoma. And whats worse is our streets. Always have potholes and crap. Driving on I-40 over the crosstown = mega sketchy. There seems to be nothing but repair patches everywhere which can throw you around.
What part are you from RC?

I recall being on I-40 one day, and this brand new Mercedes-Benz came into my lane. I had no exit with an 18 wheeler in front of me, and a truck behind me being wayy too close. So I honked my lil horn. She seemingly heard it, and got out of my lane, then pulled RIGHT back in. I ended up kicking her front right fender in. Just KILLED it. She got out of my lane. =) I tried to have her pull over with me to trade insurance. But she seemed to not want to stop. So after about a mile or two, I said F it...and bounced out. =)

Apparently you've never seen south-western PA roads or experienced New Jersey's drivers

(josh can vouch for me on the Jersey drivers lol)

*edit: and I've had my fair share of a**hole drivers. Not the "oh, I didn't see you" kind of guys either. I mean the staight-up douchenozzles.

I remember one time in particular where me and 3 other riders (yes, that's grammatically correct) were going on a... let's say "spirited" ride through a rather twisty section of 2-lane highway one day. There was a corolla in front of us, and we were riding 2x2; I was on the rear left. The first two riders cut out around to pass, and as soon as they were beside the car, the driver decided to violently swerve towards them. So on the next straight, the other rider and I decided it was probably better to be in front of this guy, so we go out around to pass, and the guy swerves out, cuts us off, and brake checks us, giving us a nice bath in his windshield washer fluid to boot. The next mile or so was full of us getting brake checked until we backed off a good bit... the next straightaway we blew his doors off before he could react (for some reason, it would seem an '01 CBR600 F4i and an '05 R6 can accelerate a little faster than a mid-90's toyota lol)... had I been wearing my nice gloves with carbon fiber knuckles at the time, the driver would have been making his way home sans a driver's side mirror.

(yes, I'm aware we were riding like a**holes, but that's no reason to blatantly put us in even further danger)

Jersey -No. Been around PA. Have family up there. Love driving the mountain areas. =)
Wait. THAT reminded me of how dumb some are up there. Going downhill I got passed by car doing 100 EASILY. If he had to stop quickly, he'd been screwed. Or, if he had lost control he'd have gone over.

P.S. - Your trash can is laying on the ground Reaper. Might wanna pick that up. Neighbors might think its trashy. =P

Yeah... for the most part, the average driver in PA should have never received their permits, let alone licenses. The skill level of the average driver in Jersey is a little better, but for the most part people in Jersey drive like douches.

and it's not my trash... it's my neighbor's. My car is facing my parents' house in that pic. On a side note, I move down to kentucky tomorrow. I can't wait for the first photoshoot down there... I give it a week before I find a good photoshoot location New sig here I come
