Ring arround the Moon
 

Last night i saw the coolest thing ever, I dunno if anyone has seen this before, but it's simply amazing to see in person, clouds all through out the sky, except for a perfect ring aroung the moon and almost nothing within this ring. i couldn't help but stare in awe when i saw this..

This isn't the one from last night but this is what it looks like, except the ring in the one last night was clearer inside of it, to the point i could see stars

The ring around the Moon is caused by the refraction of Moonlight (which of course is reflected sunlight) from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The shape of the ice crystals results in a focusing of the light into a ring. Since the ice crystals typically have the same shape, namely a hexagonal shape, the Moon ring is almost always the same size.

I was up all night as I work midnights and I saw the moon, it was very low and very bright, not quite a full circle, but I missed out on the ring. The moon did look really sick yesterday though.

when i was in japan i saw mars or jupiter i cant remember but it was really red and prolly the coolest thing ive even seen. i wish i had a picture to show you guys. it was like three years ago. they say it doesnt happen very often. nice post man
