Well, short-term, I own the mustang and I'd be making payments on an STi. Also, there's the difference in insurance prices. Long term, here's the breakdown:

Mustang:
-power goal: 600-700rwhp
-4.3L V6
-head work
-huge cam
-twin GT3076r turbos
-potential M112 supercharger (in addition to the twins)
-full suspension. The only things that won't be touched will be the steering knuckles.
-Straight-cut 1st through 4th, helical 5th. Read: indestructible 1-4, quiet 5th for cruising
-Functional aerodynamics (splitter, full belly pan, diffuser, etc)
-Total cost (including what I've done so far): $20,000-$22,000

STi:
-power goal: 500-550awhp
-factory turbocharged (really small turbo by my standards though)
-AWD
-OEM/STI/SPT parts for just over cost
-I could practically disassemble and reassemble the engine in my sleep
-purchase price: $14,000-$16,000
-total cost: $20,000-$25,000

For reference, here's a GT3076r on an F20C. Anyone who's seen an F20C in person knows it's a huge engine:

And I'm going to have two of those puppies with the possibility of a roots-style supercharger helping to spool them

Yup, I've got some plans

The only problem is financing those plans =/

Still, in 30 years when it's actually done, it's going to be a BAMF of a car.

Hark! the chicken king lives; his empire will live on even though the bullet-spitting-salamander continues eating all his caviar and fruit punch. A nipple walks slowly out of his belly button. There's a platypus eating croutons in his bathtub. The chicken king just got banned from club penguin for saying "**** my life".

$880 brake job. It's the only thing that makes me happy I don't own an STi. It's about $1,200 when the rotors are being replaced.

The more I work on this STi the less I like them. Brakes on this thing? Yeah, it's a PITA. The pads are easy to get out, just pull the bridge pins and slide the pads out. Getting the caliper off? Yeah, that's an adventure. 13" rotors? Take forever to machine. Getting the caliper back on? Yeah, I now get to tap the threads.

If I get an STi, I'm not doing the work on my own car lol

It's not technically difficult, it's just a PITA. If I were just changing pads, I'd be loving it. At any rate, the car's done. Still want an STi. And now that I figured out the easiest way to do the fronts, it's not so bad.
