Howdy yall, I really appreciate any help you can provide.

I have a 08' Civic with 56k miles and i bought it brand new. Car is all original as my wife drives it. Well we were driving the other day and she says I have no power!? I look over and the tach is at zero, rolling stall?? I felt no hesitation for the car at all I didnt even know it stalled.
So we coast to the side of the road and it turns and turs but wont start!
At this point we tow it to the mechanic, he takes the intake boot off and spays some starter fluid in there and it fired right up until the fluid was gone than stalled.
The mechanic thought the fuel relay was bad so he ordered that but that didnt help, so know he thinks it must be the fuel pump?!?!?! 56k and the fuel pump goes? Really?
Anyone else have this happen or something similar?

 

Fuel filter and fuel regulator been check???
