Default 17" rim problem!!!!

My Civic has been in and out of the local tuning shop now for the past 3 months and everything is coming together nicely..... but now i need some nice 17" rims fitted but because it has been lowered 2 inches they need to sit no further out under the arches than the original wheels!! so what is the best offset and rim width to go for??? the car is a 94' civic 3 door hatchback....

i would go with 16" wheels, cause i think that 17" would be a little tight with a 2" drop, maybe even issues with rubbing.

I was thinking about 16" rims, but main reason for wanting 17's was that the bodykit that i have fitted is very low to the ground and now that car is 7mm lower than is legal.... so i need to raise the ride height by at least 10mm......... i think that 17's should be ok provided they dont sit much further out from the arches than my original rims!!! so anyone got any hint's as to the best offset to go for??? cheers

The size of the rim is sorta irrelevant for adjusting ride height. You can get the car just as high off the ground with 16's as you can with 17's. You'd need more rubber, but that will add some sweet ride comfort.

BUT IMHO, You really shouldnt be relying on your wheel/tire combo to adjust ride height.

the car at the moment is riding on 13" rims and i have measured the 17's on my ford and they will fit perfectly without rubing whilst adding about 40mm in diameter...... provided they are fitted with the same tyres as the ones on my other car 205/40/17............ and i know it aint ideal relying on the wheels and tyred to raise the car but after all the money i have spent on the suspension it would be a complete waste of money changing it for the sake of 7mm which could be gained by fitting the 17's and low profile tyres.... so know the only hurdle i need to overcome is... WHAT OFFSET TO USE??? even a starting point which might possibly be too close the the brakes, cos i can always use spacers to move them out slightly, please help because the standard rims are realy starting to get on my nerves!!!! lol........
