1985 Civic 1.5s Engine Will not Rev above 4000 rpm?
Ihave a 1985 honda Civic with 220,000 miles. It has always been a reliable car, but recently it will not rev above 4000 rpm. The Power band stops above 3,000 rpm and will just bog and buck if you go any higher. NowI have checked the distributer cap, checked the fuel pump etc, but have not been able to find any obvious answers. Does anyone have any insights as to what might be wrong?
This car is my all time favorite! Always reliable!
thanks everyone for your input!

good idea, but this engine has a 3 barrel carborator, not a throttle body carb. I think the throttel body carbs started after 87. But either way i spraied the carb sparkling clean.

Is the self diagnosis lamp under the passenger seat blinking a trouble code (see diagram)? You also may want to download the 84-87 Civic service manual from the link in my signature.
Thanks for the input but the 85 civic S used an abundance of vacume tubes and No computer. I think this car was built before computers were invented

The S model is listed in the downloadable manual (self diagnosis diagram on page 11-8) that I am referring to. Have you looked under the front passenger seat? I think you will find an ECU/control unit.
yea, unfortinately i am certain there is nothing under thoes seats. I had installed amplifiers under both seats, there is no computer under there. In the manual 12-12.pdf shows my carb - which is different then the pgm set up. (i saw on your photo bucket - that you have up to photo 12-11 then 12-13 but no 12-12)
