1990 Civic DX... Engine type?

Looking to figure out what type of engine is in my 1990 Civic DX? I had a hard time figuring it out with the already mentioned links. Also, how would I find out what type it is if the engine has been replaced? Does it state anywhere on the engine?

engine code is on the underside of the engine block stamped in a square area.

And what would be the biggest engine I could put in this bad boy?

If you have the funding, there isn't a limit. Realistically (say, under $5,000) a GSR motor would be the best. If you just want the biggest displacement (not taking any other factors into consideration) it would be an H22 (still talking under $5k, so don't anyone say K24).
