1995 honda civic lx bogs down on hills
So i just got this honda i had to drive it home from colville and there are some hills, so every time i hit a hill id press the gas and then......... nothing, i downshift and still it boggs and slows way down i even got down to 2nd gear with the petal to the floor and still nothing any ideas?

It only does it going uphill?
|
Yes but i think it might be that my catalytic converter is clogged up from being driven for a couple miles with 8qts. of oil in it so i think if i changed that it would work better.
|
Check the spark timing first. Having it retarded will really kill performance. Timing can change suddenly if the timing belt skips a tooth. If that has happened, you should put on a new belt immediately to avoid having it fail completely.

8 quarts of oil is wayyyyyyy to much for your car that could b the issue, how many miles are on the car?
|
i checked the timing and its perfect all around and i have no idea how many miles are on it the gauge cluster is from a different car but i think the engine has around 70k tho And yes for an engine that has a max of 4.5 qts the dipsh*t put more oil in it then drove the sh*t out of it and had it overheat so i have no idea what to do other then that.
|
Driven overheated you should check the compression.
Oil change on that engine is 3.75 quarts-- including a new filter. |
yeah and i traded a perfectly good running car for this thing and the dude had no idea what he was doing. last thing i need is having to do a rebuild.
