Default 1999 civic ex help

Well my civic EX recently has started to just die on me while driving...not a stall..total power loss in the middle of driving..it then usually takes 6-7 times to get it started again.. plugs cap, rotor, fuel filter all new ....someone mentioned it could be ignition control switch or module...is this true?

and if so how to i check the ignition switch to see if it is ok

thank you in advance

mike

When you say loss of total power, do you mean loss of all electrical power. For example, do the dash warning lights also turn off? If the warning lights remain on, then definitely remove the ignition control module (ICM) and the coil from the distributor and have them tested an auto parts store.

Do the headlights also fail to work when the car dies? If so, clean and tighten the battery ground wire connection to the engine bay. Otherwise, your ignition switch may be bad.

ok so cleaned everything up on the battery and still cut out so moved on to ignition switch...got the haynes repair manual to help me a bit but not sure if i checked the continuity right

so my 5 pin connector is the one in the pic...so is the top right the 8 slot, bottom left the 10 and bottom right the 12

so i turned my multimeter to ohms and set it to 20M

only time i got it to read 0.00(which means continuity from what i understand)
is in the on position and between 8,10,12....it says 3,8 10 and 12 in repair manual but anything with 1 and 3 in any postion i couldnt get it to read 0.00

got nothing in the accesory or the start position..actually i might have had a reading of 10 or 12 on one of the other ones but def no 0.00

did i do this right?

i hope it makes sense what i put

thanks again
