Hi all...thanks for taking the time to answer. I tried searching for this under head gasket issues but keep coming up with nothing (sorry if duplicate post):

I'll start with the easy question because I'm currently loathe to start the long explanation so I'll ask the quick question and if I have more trouble I can't solve I'll post my full problem.

Basically: 2000 honda civic ex overheated and was pegged there for little over a mile probably before I noticed it (unfortunately). Towed it home, now hard start. Want to rule out possible head gasket issue, as my plug wires were damaged as well. Plug wire closest to dizzy was most "melted". Plugs all look the same and dont seem to show any signs of coolant in them (I assume they'd be super clean". No water in oil, doesn't seem to be in cooling system either.

My question is what should my compression be on a rebuilt motor with about 20k miles on it? I'm showing 4, 3, 2, 1 at 120, 120, 120, 120 respectively...dry test not wet. I'm glad they're all close to the same, but is this on the low side?

Thanks for any input. Really just want to know if the compression is ok, or if I need to have to consider redoing the head.

121 views and no answers ...still don't know if the compression is within specs, but I did manage to get the car running:

replaced the plugs and wires since they were all fried, ended up needing a new ignition coil...changed the rotor and cap for good measure since it was stock and looked worn out. The after market air filter was also covered in coolant which was making it run like crap. Cleaned etc now no problems except:

Now it's just throwing a p0131 for the primary o2...will have to look into that.

Keep your eye on the temp, you still haven't figured out why the car overheated in the first place or why you have coolant on your air filter.



OBD-II Trouble Code: P0131 Oxygen O2 Sensor Low Voltage (Bank1, Sensor1)
Replace the o2 sensor and check to see if the wires going to it are damaged.

Thanks for the response...I couldn't see the pic you posted very well, but it looked like it said 135psi...seem like my numbers are kinda low, but it's running fine so I guess I'll just go with it.

On the overheating problem, I did solve, just forgot to mention it. The fan assembly annihilated it self and took out the radiator (both of which I replaced). Thanks for the link...will check the wiring.
