2000 Civic LX Catalytic Converter...

Hi,

My 2000 Civic LX needs a catalytic converter as the previous put on a fart can and in the process took off the catalytic converter. Brand new ones are quite pricey, so I was wondering whether or not used converters can be installed or does it have to be brand new?

Thanks a lot...

It's a federal offense to buy a used one. You could go aftermarket but they dont last as long.

The stock LX combo manifold / cat should be avoided as they are expensive and prone to crack. If it has a header already, you can set it up as an EX type system with the converter under the car. That would be legal in all states except maybe California, where you would need all CARB approved parts.

Thanks a million. Though I failed to mention one thing... I'm in Newfoundland, Canada.

Is a header installed? The Canadian Si model is basically a USA EX so specify parts that way.

Nah, the idiot took the whole thing off. It's just straight pipe after manifold and a fart can at the end. Talked to the garage and they said a Cat Conv. is not required in Newfoundland to pass inspection so they won't give me any grief over it. The only problem is the 2nd O2 Sensor (the one that mounts on the Cat Conv) is nowhere to be found. Probably the guy cut it off.
