Default 2000 Honda Civic engine problem

Last week a hose burst in my wifes Civic while she was on the freeway . She had no choice but to continue driving until she could exit the freeway. To make a long story short , the engine shut off while she was driving , and I believe that the engine may be damaged.I changed out the hose and put antifreeze, and the car cranked right up and she was able to drive it home. The next day it would not crank so I had it towed to a mechanic where he told me that it was loosing oil pressure, and it shakes very bad and that the engine needed to be replaced .But the car still cranks up . Do I replace the engine or have it rebuilt , or was he just trying to make money what do I do ????
