2000 honda civic no start d16y8
ok i got this car from sum chick today and she has taken it to a few other people with no one knowing how to fix it.. story is this girl was driving this car and it died on her while she was driving.. she took it to her dads friend and they could get it started but when it warmed up it would run real bad.. he didnt know what to do so they took it to sum car x place and they messed around with it and could not get it to start at all... now the vehicle is in my hands and ive checked the distributer its fine.so i checked the crank sensor it is fine.. all the fuses are fine but i am not getting any spark at all.. i checked the injectors as well and i am getting injector pulse.. so spark is the big problem and i dont know where to go after the crank sensor and distributer are ok. any suggestions???
How are you sure the "distributor is OK"? It's probably the coil or the ICM (both inside the distributor). If the injectors are pulsing-- the ECU should also be applying spark drive pulses to the ICM, which drives the coil.
Check that the distributor has power on the larger wire in the 2-pin connector. Then take the cap off and hold a grounded test wire near the output spring on the coil and crank. You should get strong blue sparks. If you have sparks from the coil but not at the plugs, check the cap and rotor for shorts. If you have weak yellow sparks, coil is bad. (Also do not trust ohmmeter tests of the coil, often they will show a bad coil as being "OK".) If no sparks at all, take the ICM out of the distributor and have it tested (most chain parts stores have a tester).

actually because i replaced the igniter and coil thinking might as well any way car has about 150,000 miles so it wont hurt..i also took a distributer out of a running d16y8 and put it in to confirm it was not the distributer. then after that i also put on a crank sensor so that cant be the problem either... right now we are getting a ecu and testing that to see if that will be the problem..I have a feeling the people that she took it to prior to me also have done most everything i have already done so thats y im trying to find out if anyone has had any weird things happen to there civic out side of the normal replace the coil and distributer deal. because im not sure were else to go if the ecu doesnt do the trick
i pulled this on from another post, its worth a shot.
now for the no spark i swapped a y8 motor into a 96 civic didnt get spark i changed the dist. still no spark ended up being the ground was loose from the engine to the chassiy on passenger side near trans. ..
o and is the check engine light stay on when you turn the key on? if so get the codes pulled

and if none of that does anygood then it will more than likely be in the ecu,

no codes
but il go check to see if that ground is loose
just checked it and it is tight...
ohh and the other ecu that i had my friend get me was not the same one so i have to wait to be able to check that now

giving a update guys.. so last night i stayed up late as hell and what i found to be the problem was one of the wires from the harness that attaches to the distributer sum how went bad. i cut the wire and put a new pin in the harness and it fired right up after i plugged it in.. u was kind of on the right track mk378 except this distributer has only one wiring harness block not like the d16z6 distributers that have 2 blocks.. but thx for all the input guys
