Default 2001 engine into a 1996

I have two civics, a 1996 LX and a 2001 DX. The 2001 was totaled in a hail storm the other day and I was thinking about swapping the engine into the older 96. Can someone give me the pros and cons, the how to's or even if it's possible. Thanks

The 96, stock, already has a better engine. The D17A1 or even a D17A2 are not popular with tuners. They just won't go fast.

i dont know of anyone who has been able to swap the d17 into a older model civic.
i say part the 2001 civic out and use the money to buy a d16y8 motor from any 96-00 civic.
