2001 honda civic coupe EX 1.7- Help please!
hello all, I'm having some issues with this car, Its a '01 civic coupe 1.7, 5 SPD manual , roughly 120.K miles, the engine has been rebuilt, now I haven't got a lot of money to just be taking it into the shop all willy-nilly, I know the basics, the engine is bogging when I reach 3rd and and has a loud "dying" rattle, i've cleaned the EGR valve and changed its gasket, there is a oil leak somewhere near the EGR still and Its getting bad... the car is now stalling when I'm driving, and sputtering huge black clouds from the tail pipes. Just kaput at like 35 miles a hr..started back up fine but it still died without warning. I also know i have a backflow(?) o2 sensor out and a piston 2 misfire, changed the spk plugs and the plug casing.. its still throwing that code too.. i'm just unsure what to do I keep putting oil in and i've tried to find the leak, tried to find my oil pump but thats been a task ;_; its all a bit much, any help would be much appreciated, I don't want to drive it cause i don't want to throw a rod or something.
Thanks, Sadie |
Engine reaches about 3000 rpm then bogs is often because the timing belt has skipped, so check that. It sounds like you have an oil leak from the VTEC solenoid valve (top back of the engine on the transmission end). This is usually just the gasket between the valve and the head. Oil is under pressure there, so it can leak severely if the gasket is blown.

ok! thank you for the fast response! We will get those checked tomorrow, Is there any reason (other than the stated) for it just dying and smoking really bad? Should we avoid driving it?

the Vtec wasn't leaking that i saw but the red indicates where I saw fresh oil http://s21.postimg.org/kf54k0nvr/hondaengine2.jpg

That could be the cam plug, there's a plastic plug in the hole in the head at the end of the camshaft.
For misfiring start by checking the compression. If compression OK try swapping the coil from the bad cylinder to one of the other ones and see if the problem moves with it. |
who rebuilt the engine ???
