Hmmmmm...
I'm a little concerned about this mechanic. Is there any evidence that the transmission has been replaced? Look for a stamp or placard on the transmission indicating what type it is. Post your finding.

I know that it has a green metal tag on it... tomorrow when I pick up the new cv shaft that was the same size as the one on the car, I will write it down... I wonder if a 2000 model tranny would fit on the 1.7 and thats maybe what they did if the tranny was replaced... I walked in gonna pay 80 bucks and now it's up to 300 he is still charging me the 80 dollars for the axel seal even though that wasn't the problem. I may just go get it tomorrow and handle it on my own... I wonder if the 2000 civic cv shaft is longer than the 01... what a day!

I'm not buying this story of the shaft being too short. You really couldn't have been drivng that way. When the shaft isn't in all the way until it clicks, it will almost always slip out and disengage, and the car will not go at all.

When you were looking at the shafts at first trying to find the leak, did you notice if they were both in so they were almost touching the transmission?

Leaking of a new seal usually means one of these common problems:
Seal damaged during installation
Bad surface on the CV shaft that runs on the seal
Wrong seal -- wrong ID doesn't match the CV shaft, or wrong direction of rotation. They are very slightly different from left to right.

That's a huge gap! Something was definitely wrong; however, I am very su****ious about the current mechanic. Do your best to get the transmission number and post it. Auto or manual transmission?

Good Morning everyone, well I went back to the shop and picked up the one I had bought at checker's and well now he says the one I bought is too long not too short... interesting, so I told him that I was just going to take it, and one of his mechanics said they have located the right one... anyhow so I found out checkers gave me al cardone # 664060 which is for the automatic... the funny thing is that the car originally had the 664060 on it installed... so the part I need which I looked up myself is al cardone 604190... i'll update later to see if I actually get it fixed today...
