2002 Civic EX Coupe exhaust setup ?
My first civic, a 5-speed '02 EX Coupe has an exhaust that looks cobbled together and the muffler is rusted out.
I want to go back factory and go to Honda, but I don't play the lotto... Before I have the muffler shop build a system like the factory system, I need to know a couple things. I already read on here the Coupes didn't have a resonator... 1) How many oxygen-sensors are supposed to be on a coupe behind the exhaust-manifold sensor ? 2) Since I have no CAT, if the above sensors are missing, why am I not having a check-engine lite right now ?? And she runs pretty good too... Thanks, I don't want to go in there un-prepared, I'll end up with a resonator or oxygen-sensor I don't need or maybe less sensors than I need.... |
Go to hondaautomotiveparts dot com and look at the drawing of the stock system. I think the second sensor (there are two total for the whole car, one before the cat and one after) screws into the side of the converter at the back end.
There are hacks to fool the computer when there is no second sensor. Or the CEL bulb could have been taken out. The second sensor only checks the operation of the cat, it doesn't affect engine performance. |
Okay, thanks ! The drawings show that I mis-read or was mis-informed. The 2-door EX Coupe appears TO have a resonator, shown as 'pipe B'. Anyway I've been scratching my head wondering why all the ebay 'systems' have a resonator for my car.
Found my CAT, it's actually there, and behind that is the cobbled-together part.... So I just need a decent medium-loud cat-back.... |
