Hi.

I want to use my car's electric power for an accessory fan that I want to install. It's a 12V fan that I want to put under my seat. I would like to put a switch for it on the center console where they have those removable switch holes.

So - is it near the fuse box where I need to tap power? I want to make it go to the center console so I can do my wiring for the fan from there with the switch. (I'm hoping they have unused blank ports where I can hook up an accessory near the fuse box) Also, I'd like it to be powered when the engine is running but not able to have power when the key is out.

I searched everywhere, but didn't find anything. Thanks for your help!!

 

The easiest way is to connect to one of the option plugs in the fuse box. They are numbered 1-4. The number 3 spot is accessory power.

 

i had a 1990 civic that didnt have those options, theres a fuse spot named after sunroof even if there is no sunroof and you can tap into that, it runs on accessory

 

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. Is this the same accessory power that the cigarette lighter fuse is on? Also, where can I get the plugs that connect to the outlet?

 

They're impossible to find unless you hit up a junk yard and cut one off a harness somewhere.

So, I looked at the fuse box and found number 3. The plug looks like both sides of the metal connector are fused together. However, they do both come in separately (unlike number 1 which is just a single thick prong plug)

So, how would I connect 2 wires to that? It looks like they are both together, do I need to break it apart? What do I do about the negative side of the wire?

Thats odd. All of the ones in the accessory ports should be one large prong.

You can also use port 1. That comes directly from the battery positive terminal. And you can put your negative wire pretty much anywhere, grounded to the frame. I'd recommend you loosen a seat bolt and put the wire under that for your ground.

 

For those accessory slots, you can use a female quick-disconnect to connect the wire to it.
