Default 2007 Honda Civic EX - Shuddering In Low Gear

Hi,

My 2007 Civic EX (automatic transmission) does a weird thing. When you start out from a stop, the car moves along, then shifts into the next gear. If you still continue slowly, the car starts to shudder. It can be a pretty good shudder. As soon as it shifts into the next gear, this goes away. Or if you stay in the gear and just accelerate, it goes away. Now, pulling out of an intersection an in traffic where you are not accelerating quickly, I can get a pretty good shudder quite often. It seems to be getting worse though.

Also, sometimes the car doesn't seem to move into reverse as smoothly as it should when you first put it into reverse. It's rough. I don't want to say it "slams" into reverse, but it's a good "bump" maybe.

Just wondering if anyone knows what this shuddering is in this model and year.

Thanks!

Andy

Default transmission shudder

Hi,
I had the same thing. Bought a 2007 Civic, used, 55000 miles. Found a transmission shudder when warmed up would occur at light throttle application and lower speeds (like in a parking lot approaching speed bumps) but it was also worse after the trans was really hot after a very long highway drive. It would shudder worse then and at a higher speed but in both cases it was between 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear.
Since the car was new to me I enquired at the dealer and they didn't find any Service Bulletins on it so I elected to have them change the trans fluid with Honda brand fluid. (just a drain and refill of 2.5 quarts). Immediate relief. I can only assume that someone serviced it with Dexron which is supposed to be compatible and used for fluid top-offs only. Stick with the Honda fluid when changing it. Do not have anyone do a Trans flush. Honda does not reccomend this. Just do a drain and refill. Please reply if this fixes your problem so others may share the info outcome. Thanks and good luck.
