When were the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor last replaced? If necessary, replace them and then adjust the ignition timing with a timing gun:

Talking Thanks for the Help

I don't have much work history on the car. All I know is its CarFax is clean

The spark plugs when pulled appeared in good health with a fairly defined clean tip still.

Also I have had a distributer ignition coil (in another civic)go bad before this caused my tach to jump slightly particularly in sync with an acceleration issue.

However this civic does not do this the tach appears to be steady.

With this info do you still believe it to be the plugs, wires, cap or distributer.

Thanks !

My advice would be to start by replacing the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor and by adjusting/checking the ignition timing. In most cases, doing such a basic tune up will solve the type of problem you describe. If not, post the outcome, and we'll go from there.

By the way, the coil and ICM in the distributor have lifetimes of approximately 150K miles. Therefore, you might consider having them tested if the basic tune up does not do the trick.
