82 civic help, is water pump connected to alt. belt?

Yes i said 82, not 92, or 02. My alternator belt snapped and then i noticed that my temp gauge was on hot... so is the water pump or anything else connected to the alternator belt that would cause it to overheat or am i just having terrible luck and multiple things breaking at once?

Is the alternator belt only connected to two pulleys, the alternator pulley and the crankshaft pulley? If so, then the overheating is likely a separate problem. Is the coolant low? Does the radiator fan run when the engine is hot? Have you tried replacing the radiator cap and thermostat?

as RonJ said, normally it isn't. the water pump should be connected to your timing belt but I don't have a schematic or fsm on the '82 model. perhaps you can go to the link in my signature or RonJ's signature and see if your year's factory service manual (fsm) is there. btw, considering that this is an '82, I don't consider this terrible luck. you've had a good ride for a very long time.

Any luck with this? i have the same problem. mine runs perfect, no temp issues. but i keep breaking belts. and im no car guy. but the belt only goes to crank, alt, waterpump. i.e. no water pump = overheat. my new one hit the road today. being my 3rd since been on the road. this one lasted about 800-900kms. any helps appreciated
